Initiative for Development and Education in Africa at Georgia Tech (GT-IDEA) is a student-led organization aimed at establishing strong and sustainable programs to help meet urgent development needs in Africa. The organization was founded in January 2007 by a group of 12 students passionate about engaging the Georgia Tech community in finding solutions to Africa’s development issues.
GT-IDEA draws on the expertise, talent and resources of the Georgia Tech community to initiate dialogue and establish practical, implementable projects. To date, we have instituted three programs aimed at meeting this goal: Collaborative Teaching Project (CTP), Pan-African Perspectives Essay Competition, and Afric@Tech. These initiatives are gaining a lot of support and momentum across the Georgia Tech community. With YOUR help we can make an even bigger impact!
Because…
…Africa needs your help.
…As a student, combining the skills and tools you’re learning in the classroom with your creativity and optimism will undoubtedly lead to innovative approaches and solutions to Africa’s development problems.
…As a faculty/staff member, you have the expertise and experience to help shape and bring our initiatives to life.
…As a corporate sponsor your resources and vision will help Africa successfully achieve its world market potential.
Because, as a global citizen, you believe all of humanity deserves to live free from poverty and illness; you believe access to education should be universal; and, because you believe you can make a difference.
Supporting GT-IDEA is supporting Africa in its endeavors to overcome poverty, develop in education, enhance life-skills, and promote innovative business initiatives.
Africa is a continent with vast potential to emerge as a booming marketplace and a cultural center. Science and technology are critical to economic growth and development in Africa. In addition to promoting economic progress and higher living standards, your support for GT-IDEA initiatives is an investment in human capital. Once the foundation for information and communication infrastructure is laid and the human condition improved by worldwide efforts such as our own, Africa will certainly emerge as a profitable market for all sectors of the economy. And you who help make this possible, through curriculum development, collaborative teaching, and knowledge exchange, will emerge as a group of global thinkers and problem solvers with the ability to lead in this culturally diverse world.
